About

Jasmine Puccio with her camera, black and white

Nice to meet you, I'm Jasmine.

I grew up surrounded by art, and from an early age I developed a particular attention to detail. Photography came into my life early on, at first as a way to keep memories and fragments of everyday life. Over time, though, my interest shifted from things to people: first my friends, then the strangers I met on my travels.

Travelling broadened my outlook, bringing me into contact with cultures, traditions and ways of living different from my own. Curiosity about what I didn't know turned into an ongoing search, and photography became the way to keep and share what strikes me: a place, an encounter, an expression or a moment bound to pass.

Today, photographing is a way for me to observe and to communicate. I'm interested in what hides in the details, in what a glance can say without words, and in the nuances that make every person unique. Through my images I try to share my interpretation of the world, offering the people who look at them a perspective different from their own.

My visual language

Black and white has played an important part in my photographic research. It lets me focus on gestures, on light and shadow, on shapes and on the grain that gives each image its character. But it isn't a limit I want to impose on myself: colour plays an essential role too, when it helps convey the atmosphere, the light or the identity of a scene.

What I hadn't seen

I don't follow a set formula. When I photograph, I let myself be guided by what happens in front of me, trying to capture spontaneous moments and details that a distracted eye might miss.

Sometimes it's only when I look back at the images that I realise I kept something I hadn't fully perceived while it was happening. It's one of the things that fascinates me most about photography:

the chance to discover, through images, something I didn't know I had seen.

Between places, people and stories

Today I've chosen Spain as the country I call home, and I keep exploring, photographing and learning from what I come across. My work spans different fields, from portraits to street photography, from music to creative projects, through to the stories of couples and families. What connects them is curiosity about people and about what happens around them.

When I work with people, I look for a balance between listening and spontaneity. I want to create a space where everyone can feel at ease, without having to play a role or chase an ideal image. I prefer to let gestures, relationships and what happens naturally shape the photographs.

My aim isn't only to document what I see, but to find a personal way to tell it.
